We are having continued issues of them running off. We live in the country ( but on a busy side road) in Ontario CanadaIf we let them out or they are loose and not watched they take off and do not come back for ages. We have trained since pups used varied ideas over years and thus far nothing works. We even tried the electronic collars. Help please

Back in the days all dogs just walked threw the villages and played with each other, now everything needs to be controlled.

I let my dog off the lead and he never walks to human, only to people with other dogs.
Those who ignore he will ignore also and come back.
But there are those incompetent people who start to flip around in fear and than my dogs thinks they want to play as they almost dancing on fear.
Then these people with small dogs who come in the forest and pick up their small dogs and dance with them in the hands so my lab start to jump to play with the smal dog.

The key is really to not control your dog like a human, but he have to listen to you at all times.
Now I just came back from a moment in the forest with a lady and small dog totally in fear while my dog just came to say Hi, I screamed to him but he refused to come and runned as fast as he could towards them.
Now if he meet them by accident I wouldn’t act, but now I first acted and got him home at the lead very strong and he is now in the bench for 24h and onyl comes out in the evening to take a piss.
No meal today, fasting day for him.
Tomorrow morning he get’s a new chance, only walking with the lead and if he doesn’t show any sign of resistance next day off the lead.
If he again don’t listen when there is such a situation, back to homestead and in the bench as punishment.

A older guy who never put’s his dog on the lead told this to me as to be his magic trick, he controls his dog very good, the dog even does tricks.
I applied it months ago and the results where very good, control over my puppy was very good.
But now I notice the control is getting back, so I have to repeat him who is really in charge.

I know, it sounds harsh, and first time for me it was hard to not devolve to emotional chakras but this is the only way respect between each other can be reached.
At the end, you and me are the one’s who walk and with them and give them food.
Sometimes you have to remember them who is in charge.

And also a tip: never let other incompetent dog owners suck your energy because they don’t understand.
As long as your dog doesn’t attack others there is nothing wrong, even when you in the forest without lead and he goes off to other dog, they just want to play and incompetent people just can’t process this and don’t understand they have only the mouth to play with and it’s not biting.

For real, let them be animals.
Respect between each other, no slave.

She will stay around me for awhile sniffing the ground and then she takes off like a bullet. We live by two very busy highways and I nearly have a heart attack every time she darts across the street. She NEVER listens her entire 7 years!!! I FEEL HOPELESS. She completely ignores my recall even when I say treat…. I need Help.

He is now almost 4. He started running to a dog that was in heat that lives 5 miles away. Now my dog will just run there because they let him into their house and give it tons of attention and love( which I also do). How can I stop him from running? My family and I love the dog, but I’m afraid because they treat him like family, he’ll continue to go there..

He was a rescue, so missed the puppy training stage. About 30 escapes in 2 years – some potentially fatal. I have been looking for advice for a very long time and yours is the most sensible I have found. Maybe one day I will be able to let him off the lead. Thank you

My dog from Romania has “regressed” the fitter and happier he has become to the point where he has regressed—despite lots of professional training–4 years old—-did recall at first as he got fitter etc—got worse on recall–for now—still working on it—do not want lead forever.
