He never lays down to rest, constantly roaming our first floor looking to steal something, or chew a table end or some piece of furniture. We are constantly buying him new toys and things to chew to entertain him. He gets 2 walks per day. We tried putting out a dog bed for him to settle in but he will immediately attack it and try to tear it up, or get will hump it, and we wind up dragging him off of it and putting it away out of his sight. He wants to be entertained all day, we have to crate him to get him to stop pestering us and lay down.

There was a lot of tough love to get him to where he is at today. I would say from all the other dogs I had or have witnessed with other people, I have the BEST dog in the world! Yes, I know I may not be very objective, but he really is “near” perfect. Which brings me to his “velcroness.” If this is not a word, it should be. I don’t see him as having any severe psychological problems. He has learnt that I need my space and he constantly pushes those boundaries. I have my wife and a special needs daughter. He competes for attention from both all the time. When one of them comes into “my” room, the dog feels he should be allowed too. I allow that. I see that as just wanting to be apart of the family. But from the time I wake up till the time I go to bed, I can feel and see our dog “stalking ” me. His eyes are always on me. When he lies down, his head is always facing in my direction. It’s as if there aren’t any other members in our family. As he has no interest in them at all. I’m 69 years old so I know he needs more exercise than I can provide him. I take him with me to our little acre in the county where I go shooting, BBQing, loading ammo, and just tinkering. He’s always on my heels. I even tell him to “stop following me.” He totally understands that and will put his head down and walk away, but he’s right back at it again the next time I happen to walk near him while doing one of my tasks. Again, he is always facing me. He’s not allowed in my working space of the garage at all. He accepts that, but again he keeps his face in my direction no matter where I go. So I guess you can say I’m tolerating all of this and have been for 4 years now. But other than that, he has been a wonderful dog! Some things we just have to learn to accept in all of our imperfect relationships, don’t we? Even with people. Amirite?

She has a dog bed (her “place”) in the living room, and I will use this with what you say below, along with her crate for the separation. This is great – I’ve been pretty desperate. Thank you!
