Love the website… So helpful…
So we have a female labrador of 3 months… She is very peaceful and quite obedieny for her age: sit, down, stay, come and we are working on the drop it command. She is very social with other dogs… Like playing for a while but then prefers to have a nap next to us. So we are rescuing another puppy (i could not say no) a beagle mix male who will arrive in 2 weeks… After reading your article I am a bit scared that my lab will hurt the small puppy as she is quite bulky for 3 months. But she is very calm around us… So now after reading this I know that the timeframe is not good. But i dont want my puppies to get behavioral issues after because i brought them together at the wrong timing.
Thanks for your help.

And it breaks my heart every time I leave the house because he stares out the window with such a sad face. But he is an attention seeker. I have two guinea pigs which he does r care about anymore because we’ve had them for 4 years (we’ve had my lab Coby for 5) he still gets a little jealous if I take them out and play with them but as long as I pet him after he doesn’t care. I really want a second smaller dog that I can play with and they won’t topple me if they jump on me. Should I get one?

However, we can’t decide on a breed, and we’ve only ever had labs, so we want to try something new. What breed works well with 6 yr old labs?? She’s very friendly and happy, but really lonely. Also, will bringing another dog in the picture make her even more lonely because we pay so much attention to the new puppy? Please help.

Is it better to get a female or male? What is a good age for the second dog. We don’t want to go through the puppy stage again.
Thanks

Go for it! Dogs dont need the same breed or size to friends with. Just be sure your dog can be gentle with a smaller dog.

He was introduced to a female dog about 6 months ago. It took a very long time for him to ‘warm’ up to her. They got into many fights. They are now how ever best friends. Unfortunately they have to be split now, as I am moving away. I don’t want my Lab to be lonely? But I’m scared of getting him a friend and having to introduce him to another puppy? Please help? He is a very jealous Dog – especially when it comes to me and my attention. It was just is two for the most parts – so he grew very attached to me. I am how ever going to be at work most of the day – and I don’t want him to be lonely or unhappy. Please help.
