In the literature sent by the animal hospital, one line summed it up: don’t prolong your pet’s suffering just to delay your own.

Hi Mags. I’m sorry to hear your dog is struggling. It’s good to hear that you’ve consulted their vet – the vet will be the best person to help you going forward. If they do diagnose laryngeal paralysis, you can read more about this here: https://www.thelabradorsite.com/laryngeal-paralysis-in-dogs/
I do hope thats helpful, and that you have some answers soon.

Hi Nancy – sorry to hear you’re in this position. Only you can decide this, with advice from your vet, because every situation is different. But for any intervention I like to ask the vet ‘will this procedure cause my dog any distress?’ and ‘will the results of the scan change your treatment/management plan?’ (and if so, how!). I hope that helps a little.
~Sammie.

I have a slim bouncy 13 years old dark chocolate Labrador (working x show) and she has always been active. Lately she has been breathing raspy and has become suspicious of her meals, which is dry kibble filled with water. She has never been a fussy eater. At the moment we are awaiting results from the vet who has taken blood samples.

Recently I learned of two other Labradors of similar ages, having laryngeal paralysis, the symptoms sound similar and wondered if there is a cure. Has anyone experienced this? Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I must be selfish but I will do whatever it takes to make her happy until I absolutely know it is time to say goodbye…I’ve heard we all ‘know’ when it is that time…her 13th birthday was yesterday…and I feel so guilty that I would do this right after.
