I’ve never been an emotional man, yet your kind words regarding Toby just now caused my eyes to swell with tears again. In terms of the bond created with a Black Lab, the words ” Man’s best friend ” is a severe understatement.
Thank you for your condolences.

My 11 yr old Black Lab passed away today. I’m absolutely heart-broken. His name was Toby and he was a BIG boy at 110 lbs. Toby was the sweetest, most gentle and loyal companion I’ve ever had. He was an athlete, as he loved to catch ball, swim and just be outdoors. Inside the house he kept track of my whereabouts and would stay as close to me as possible. At night, he would lay on the floor and actually bump up against the bed next to me. If I woke during the night and got up, he’d follow me to the kitchen , bathroom wherever I was going. I guess he had a full life at 11 but God should have designed such a loving animal to live a longer life! My world is a lesser place without him as the bond between us was so strong. A gentle giant , a Prince amongst his peers. A truly special friend. Toby , you’ll live til the day I die, because you live in my heart. I pray I’ll see you again one day.

Hi Barbara. Congratulations on your new family member! The poop eating is horrid, isn’t it. Take a look at this article for some tips on addressing it :). And it sounds like you might find it helpful to pop over to The Labrador Forum to chat about what’s worked for them in terms of diet and allergies – we’d love to see you there!

My first black lab ever and he gets along great as a support dog for my anxious 10 yr old mixed rescue. The only thing I have any issues with is he eats his and everyone else’s poop…yikes! His skin is very dry and he is itchy a lot. I have tried so many things and he is on raw duck food. He was on apoquel but I took him off it didn’t help and they cytopoint shots but read that is horrible for them too. I am trying all natural products. Has anyone had any issues or has some suggestions.

But we were always there because we knew they are both kids learning. They have an older dog… so he basically sleeps most of the day and was very different from our Buck. But we told the boys how they needed to be around Buck while he learns to not jump on them. It’s been almost 2 years, Buck LOVES when they come over and they love running around with him… but we are still always there because at the end of the day its 3 boys playing and chasing balls, etc 🙂 but they love each other.
