It is a very very slow burn and whilst I understand the science it is very difficult to keep the faith in the process when life is impacted so significantly still . I think it’s also worth noting that it is a much easier approach to deal with dog reactivity than people – it’s difficult to form a bubble with people in your home . Strangers either come in or not . Equally you cannot control every hand or every engagement ie at traffic lights ensuring someone doesn’t speak to your dog who may sniff their ankle

your comment illustrates exactly why your dog’s problem isn’t going away – you have no patience. if you had read the article, you would know why it’s called bubble theory, and why it’s a complex issue that does involve work on your part. it even addresses that the situation may feel “pretty depressing and embarrassing,” as you say. maybe you shouldn’t have adopted a reactive dog over half your body weight if you don’t have time to read one single article about how to help it thrive. the author took the time to write these words to help you – she doesn’t have time to re-summarize it because you can’t be bothered. best of luck.

I learned from a previous under-socialized rescue that approaching a fearful dog while staring and smiling with teeth showing looks like a wolf about to attack. I’ve taught my neighbors to turn their bodies sideways and avert their eyes before handing her a treat. Once both parties are comfortable with that routine, I can have the person ask my dog to “touch” the palm of one hand with her nose and immediately after give her a treat with the other hand.

I’m 5’2” and 125# with a 70 pound dog. I’m embarrassed and not happy with my dog.

Tired or has a bone he’s most likely to growl
It’s scary because I don’t know when he might turn on me

What do you if your dog starts growling at another dog clear down the block? Reward it?

I’ve been out for walks with my dogs when suddenly I’m trapped from all angles with oncoming triggers. I’ve been known to go up into people’s yards to turn around and go the other way, but when I’m trapped I’m trapped. How do I find a situation that is so ideal that we can progress forward step by step in the training?

This behavior came about out of the blue, we have lived with our dogs together, happily for 2.5 years but if someone comes near myself or sometimes my sons and it’s also close to this dog he attacks our other dog. It has been extremely stressful as I am always on edge, watching for signs of the next attack. I did find an online training program that will help teach the Bubble Method theory. I am hoping it helps.

I was surprised to read that lying on her side with one leg raised is a fear/anxiety sign. We thought she wants belly scratches. How can I apply the bubble theory to the bedroom routine. She dislikes the crate. She sleeps in her own bed on the floor at the floor of our bed. Thank you!
